About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Lafayette, LA, Priya's Indian Food is a vibrant culinary treasure for anyone eager to explore the rich tapestry of authentic Indian cuisine. This charming restaurant at 4807 Johnston St offers an inviting atmosphere where every detail—from the warm hospitality to the thoughtfully prepared dishes—feels like a loving embrace into Indian culture and tradition.

The menu here is a celebration of bold spices, intricate flavors, and fresh ingredients, masterfully combined to craft dishes that linger long after your last bite. You cannot visit Priya's without trying their Chicken Dum Biryani, a succulent, 24-hour marinated boneless chicken layered with caramelized onions and fragrant spices, slow-cooked to perfection. It’s a dish that boasts depth and warmth, a comfort food elevated to an art form.

For those craving a meat entrée, the Better Butter Chicken is an absolute standout. Slow-roasted chicken chunks soaked in Priya’s signature tomato and onion sauce deliver a luscious, velvety experience that’s rich but perfectly balanced. Likewise, the Chicken Tikka Masala seduces with its creamy texture and depth, lovingly marinated for 24 hours and simmered in a flavorful sauce that has quickly become a local favorite.

Vegetarian and vegan diners are equally spoiled here. The Vegetable Biryani is a vibrant, herb-infused delight, simmered with freshly handchopped vegetables that carry a fragrant balance of spice and earthiness. Must-try appetizers like the crispy Veggie Samosas and the fresh, tangy Tempered Chickpea Salad offer the perfect beginning to your meal, echoing traditional street foods of India with a fresh twist.

Then there are the iconic breads—especially Priya's Vegan Naan and warm Roti—which are perfect for mopping up every last bit of those delectable sauces. And no Indian meal is complete without a cup of their famous Chai Tea, aromatic and soothing, inviting you to slow down and savor the moment.

For dessert, Sweet Priya’s Sweets are a must. The Jangri, a classic crispy treat dripping in sweet syrup, has captured the hearts of locals and kids alike. Equally enchanting is the Saffron Coconut Mawa Ladoo, delicately handrolled with saffron, cardamom, and housemade ghee, offering a rich and fragrant finale to your meal.

What truly sets Priya’s apart is the genuine warmth and hospitality. Customers regularly share stories of how owner Priya and her team go above and beyond to make guests feel like family. Whether it’s accommodating dietary needs, as Courtney Cavalier experienced with her gluten-free and dairy-free saag chicken that she called “phenomenal,” or creating hand-crafted beverages like the refreshing lavender and coconut lemonades mentioned by Claude Louis, every visit promises a personal and heartfelt experience.

First-timers consistently praise the explosion of flavors—from Amanda Faske’s delight at finding the chicken samosas and tikka masala unforgettable, to Patrick Alarcon’s surprise at discovering a hidden gem that delivers authentic spices, refreshing drinks, and friendly service on every visit. The passion behind each dish is unmistakable, as Cassidy Davis notes that the food bursts with fresh, perfectly balanced flavors crafted with evident love.

In a city teeming with dining options, Priya’s Indian Food stands apart not only for its flavorful, handmade dishes but also for the heartfelt connection it builds with every guest. We just tried Priya’s today for the first time, this was also my first time trying Indian food and all I can say is…OH MY GOODNESS!! The food was like an explosion of delicious flavors in my mouth! We tried the chicken samosas, tikka masala, butter chicken, garlic naan & butter naan plus a hibiscus lemonade (so good) and had plenty of leftovers for dinner! It’s safe to say we will definitely be back, they were so kind and I loved the eclectic yet cozy atmosphere. Make sure if you want to try yummy, authentic Indian food to stop by Priya’s and SUPPORT LOCAL!!

Priya’s Indian Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ is a hidden gem! Felt very authentic & genuine. Absolutely delicious from the rice, appetizers, and chicken to the bold sauces and spices. I loved how delicious they were, and they delivered! The soup was flavorful, the multiple different drinks were refreshing, and the staff was super friendly / spot on. It wasn’t a planned stop, but I’m so glad I found it and will now come back again. Highly recommend!

Priya was so kind and welcoming when we arrived for my birthday lunch date. It was the first time I had been to her restaurant and I wasn’t sure she would be able to accommodate my gluten free/dairy free diet. I was very excited when I realized that she could. I had the gluten free/dairy free saag chicken and it was phenomenal. It is a struggle to find restaurants with great food that accommodate my diet. I am very grateful to have found Priya.

What a hidden gem in the city of Lafayette! Priya and her team put together a wonderful meal in a wonderful atmosphere and EVERY SINGLE THING we ate was delightful and full of flavor! Lavender lemonade and coconut lemonade are made in house and so are the samosas! Please do yourself a favor and visit Priya's! You won't be disappointed. Chef's kiss!

Become part of the family at the amazing Priya’s! She puts love in every ounce of her food and you can taste it. It is some of the best food in Lafayette, hands down. If you never had Indian food and want to dip your toe in, you must go here. You can NEVER go wrong with her butter chicken.

Priya’s was a pleasant surprise! I was excited to show my dad authentic South Indian food and this place was legit. They can make almost anything gluten free. The owner and her husband were the sweetest and we will definitely be coming back for more!
